Arriving in Seattle & the San Juans

With much anticipation, especially for Dion, we arrived in Seattle on August 22nd. We took the elevated highway that separates the Seattle skyline from the Puget Sound into the city and arrived at Dion’s parents place just in time for dinner. It was great to catch up with them for a night before heading to the San Juan islands for a weekend wedding.
The San Juan Islands are heavily wooded, serene islands about 90 miles from Seattle in the Northern reaches of the Puget Sound. They offer great kayaking, whale watching, and assorted others excuses to simply enjoy the outdoors a short trip from Seattle. The San Juans have also long marked the end point of our road trip across the states. With good friends’ Jim & Elana’s wedding scheduled on the last weekend in August and Dion asked to marry them, the cross country route always including arriving at the San Juan Ferry docks by August 23rd.
The wedding & reception took place on an open grass lawn overlooking a cove on Orcas Island. It was an incredible setting, especially given that the intermittent rain throughout the day gave way to sun breaks just before the ceremony. Dion was quite honored to have his role and was happy to see that the bride, groom and parents seemed to appreciate his small piece in the day. Being able to read two friends their vows is an experience that drew him a little closer to both of them and one he will always cherish.

We enjoyed the rest of the weekend with a little kayaking, a little hiking, and a lot of time just hanging out with friends. That has been an essential goal of this entire trip; creating opportunities to have quality time that we may not otherwise have, with some of our closest friends. The wedding weekend in San Juan’s gave us precisely that.

Hi Christy

Dinner with your Mom last night
(first time in many years) so of course she had fun talking about you, Dion and your adventures.
Our son David and girl friend Christy are off on a world tour - leaving in about 2 weeks.

I am also sure you mother will pass that on to you.

They can be found at www.DiscoveringDeafWorlds.com

I have www.RayJustice.com which is a web site listing my projects.

Enjoyed looking over your journey so far and hope you enjoy the rest.
It will most likely have something that will define your next years.
Will be fun to see what you are up to next.

Your mother looks great so "retirement" must really be agreeing with her.

keep that huge smile on your face as you move through the world.
